Olivia Colman popped up on Amy Poehler’s podcast Good Hang. It’s a delightful interview that begins with the women bonding over their early careers in sketch comedy and ends with Amy introducing her guest to America’s Funniest Home Videos. Olivia is currently promoting her new black comedy film, The Roses. It co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch, who called in for a quick video chat with Amy before Olivia’s interview started.
Towards the end of their discussion, Olivia referred to her husband, Ed Sinclair, as her “best friend,” which absolutely delighted Amy. Amy started asking Olivia more questions about their relationship and the first thing she did was show off a tattoo on her forearm with his name on it. It’s in small, evenly spaced out block letters, which prompted Olivia to joke that the tattoo looks ”a bit like he pissed on me.”
Olivia Colman is taking the piss out of her romantic gesture to her husband Ed Sinclair. During her appearance on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, The Roses actress, 51, revealed that she has her significant other’s name tattooed on her forearm and compared the act of love to something a bit more crude yet hilarious.
While chatting with Poehler about her longstanding marriage to the Landscapers actor, Colman flashed the simple ink, which appears to spell out his first name.
“It’s a bit like he pissed on me,” Colman joked with Poehler, adding, “He just stamped it on you.” Colman then confirmed that marking her love for Sinclair permanently was her “choice.”
Colman and Sinclair have been married…since 2001. They met while attending school in Cambridge, England, and today share three children: Hall, Finn and a daughter whose name they have not revealed.
When you look at the tattoo from far away, it does kind of look like a series of small, round dots. My mind hadn’t gone to pee, but today I can’t unsee it. Just before this exchange, Olivia got emotional after recounting a story about how she didn’t prepare a speech in the run-up to the 2018 Oscars because she didn’t want to get her hopes up. Right before they left, Ed slipped her some notes on who to thank that he’d jotted down “just in case.” That was the well-received speech she ended up giving when she won for The Favourite. She was clearly joking about the tattoo in an attempt to lighten the mood.
While we’re on the subject, another fun fact about Olivia and tattoos is Dakota Johnson gave Olivia her first one after the 2021 wrap rave for The Lost Daughter. At the time, she quipped, ”Maybe it was me being completely seduced by this gorgeous person and wanting her to think I was cool. Or maybe it was my midlife crisis.” She really is too funny. She’s also brave. I don’t think I’d ever let a co-worker give me a tattoo.
