EXCLUSIVE: Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired international sales rights to two Tubi original YA romantic comedies, How to Lose a Popularity Contest and Kissing Is the Easy Part. Blue Fox will launch sales at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.
How to Lose a Popularity Contest stars Chase Hudson (Downfalls High) and Sara Waisglass (Ginny & Georgia). Written by Kaitlin Reilly and Dorian Keyes, the film follows a rebellious bad boy and a type-A overachiever who join forces to win the student body presidency – and maybe each other’s hearts along the way.
The film is produced by Great Pacific Media, with Lindsay McAdam and Jason Fischer producing, and Devorah Moos Hankin and Lori Massini serving as executive producers.
Kissing Is the Easy Part stars Asher Angel (Shazam! Fury of the Gods) and Paris Berelc (Alexa & Katie) and is based on the Wattpad webnovel of the same name by Christine Duann. Directed by Fawzia Mirza (The Queen of My Dreams), the film follows straight-A overachiever Sean (Angel), who strikes a offer to tutor effortlessly cool Flora (Berelc) in exchange for a college recommendation letter to his dream school – but when sparks fly, school is the least of their problems. Jennifer Robertson (Ginny & Georgia) co-stars as Sean’s mother.
The film is produced by WEBTOON Productions’ David Madden, Jason Goldberg, and Wattpad President Aron Levitz. Angel, Berelc, Mirza, and Rebecca Webb executive produce, alongside Blue Ice Pictures’ Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, and Samantha Levine.
“We’re thrilled to bring these two fresh, joyful rom-coms to the international marketplace,” said Blue Fox Entertainment President Lisa Gutberlet. “The success we’ve seen worldwide with The Bad Boy and Me and its sequel proves the strong appetite for Tubi Originals internationally, and we’re confident that Kissing Is the Easy Part and How to Lose a Popularity Contest will resonate just as strongly with audiences everywhere.”
Blue Fox Entertainment will have distribution rights outside of the U.S. and Canada for both titles. The international distribution offer was brokered by Erica Novich on behalf of Tubi and Lisa Gutberlet and Kalani Dreimanis for Blue Fox Entertainment.
