Chennai police received a phone call on Sunday claiming that a bomb had been planted at the residence of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Joseph Vijay in Neelankarai, ECR. Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and deployed a bomb disposal squad. Experts conducted a thorough search inside and outside the house. Following the incident, heavy security was deployed outside Vijay’s house. However, no official confirmation of the discovery of any dangerous object has yet been received. Meanwhile, visuals of the incident have surfaced on social media and media channels.
All about the Karur stampede incident
The stampede at Vijay’s election rally in Karur has shocked the entire state. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, has claimed 41 lives so far. The deceased included 18 women, 13 men, five girls, and five children. Of these, 34 were from Karur district, while two each were from Erode, Tiruppur, and Dindigul, and one from Salem district. The massive crowd caused many people to fall unconscious and be admitted to nearby hospitals.
Financial assistance for the victims’ families of the Karur incident
Following this tragic accident, Vijay expressed his deep condolences and announced financial assistance to the affected families. He announced financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh each to the injured. Vijay expressed his personal sadness at the incident. He stated that such incidents, due to lack of security and management, should not occur at political events.
Petition in the Madras High Court against Vijay’s rave
On Sunday, the Madras High Court heard a petition seeking to prevent Vijay’s rave, TVK, from holding any public meeting, rally, or event until the investigation into the Karur stampede is complete. Justice N. Senthilkumar ordered an urgent hearing and directed the state government to respond. Vijay also filed a petition in the court, demanding an impartial investigation by the CBI or a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
