BOSTON — With the Bruins focusing on their power play Monday morning, David Pastnak took the ice with his teammates for the first time in training camp.
The All-Star winger led the opening stretch and his impact was evident quickly. He skated with Group B at 11:30 a.m., which also featured linemates Morgan Geekie and Elias Lindholm.
“You could feel it,” coach Marco Strum said. “As soon as he steps on the ice, there was a certain presence we were missing the last few days. It was good energy, especially coming from him.”
Pastrnak had been sidelined to start September with tendinitis in his knee. After the session, the 29-year-old explained he’s been managing the injury for quite some time.
“I played with it the whole year last year,” Pastrnak said. “So I wouldn’t be too worried about it. Obviously spent a lot of time in the summer to make it better, and it did get much better than it was last year. Obviously it wasn’t perfect. It’s not perfect yet. But it was perfect timing to try to get it even better… so nothing too concerning, it’s just something that’s nagging me for a very long time.”
Is the tendinitis something Pastrnak believes he’ll need to manage again throughout this year?
“I don’t know,” Pastrnak said. “I guess just, it’s something that time will tell.”
Despite the knee ailment, Pastrnak appeared in all 82 games for the Bruins last season, scoring 43 goals and adding 63 assists. His 106 points were easily the most for anyone in a Boston uniform in 2024-25. Nobody else had more than 57 (Geekie).
After the season, Pastrnak felt good enough to play for Czechia in the 2025 Worlds tournament in Sweden, where he added 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in eight games.
