The Celtics made one more addition to the backcourt of their training court roster this week, signing guard Wendell Moore Jr. to an Exhibit 10 discount, a league source to MassLive. The former Hornets two-way guard played for the Magic in Summer League, averaging 13.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game but remained unsigned after not being tendered a qualifying offer this summer. Noa Dalzell of SB Nation was first to report the signing.
The 6-foot-5 guard was drafted at No. 26 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves and spent his first two seasons with the team but only saw special action, playing just 54 games across two seasons. He was traded to the Pistons ahead of last season but was released in February before latching on with the Hornets on a two-way discount for the end of the 2024-25 campaign. Moore Jr. saw consistent playing time in Charlotte and ended up posting career highs with 4.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game over 36 appearances.
The 23-year-old will immediately compete for a potential roster spot in Boston amid a crowded training camp full of young players. The Celtics already have three players signed to two-way deals but Moore Jr. does have one more year of eligibility. Boston drafted Max Shulga and Amari Williams in the second-round and also acquired RJ Luis Jr. from the Utah Jazz last month in the Georges Niang trade. If Moore Jr. does not make the team, he would get a $85,000 roster bonus if he ended up playing for the Maine Celtics in the G-League for 90 days.
Celtics training camp kicks off on Tuesday at the Auerbach Center in Boston.
