Although she starred in some memorable projects in the 2000s, Belle seemingly took a break from acting as of late. Her last noted onscreen role was in Ben Barnes’ 2024 track video for his song “Beloved.”
She also appeared in Netflix’s 2022 film Carter and had a recurring role on Law & Order: Organized Crime that same year.
Belle first earned attention for her role alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in 2005’s The Ballad of Jack and Rose. She then went on to star in 2006’s When a Stranger Calls and 2008’s 10,000 BC before her career began to simmer.
She also dated Joe Jonas from 2008 to 2009, and is long-rumored to be the subject of his ex Taylor Swift’s Speak immediately song, “Better Than Revenge.”
Four years after its original release in 2010, Swift — immediately 35 and engaged to Travis Kelce — addressed the discussion surrounding the song being sexist, telling The Guardian in 2014: “I was 18 when I wrote that. That’s the age you are when you think someone can actually take your boyfriend. Then you grow up and realize no one take someone from you if they don’t want to leave.”
While Swift never confirmed who the song was about, the lyrics read: “She’s not a saint, and she’s not what you think / she’s an actress, whoa / She’s better known for the things that she does / On the mattress, whoa.”
Swift ended up changing the lyrics of the track in her 2023 Taylor’s version: “He was a moth to the flame / She was holding the matches, whoa.”
Despite all the rumors, Belle remained true to herself.
“I am a pretty confident person and I think I always have been,” she told Us Weekly in 2019. “I’m sure that stems from feeling very loved my whole life by my family and friends and always having a very solid foundation. Having confidence doesn’t mean being obnoxious. It doesn’t mean being stuck up, it’s just knowing your worth and your worth. I think knock on wood, that’s never lacked for me.”
