An elderly woman was pinned under a car and seriously injured in Gloucester, Massachusetts, on Friday, officials said.
The woman was flown by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, according to Gloucester police and fire officials.
The incident was reported about 10:48 a.m. on Prospect Street near an elderly housing building, and first responders found the 85-year-old’s lower legs pinned under the car’s passenger side, officials said. Investigators believe the injuries were caused by the driver accelerating when the woman was getting into the car.
Firefighters raised the vehicle using airbags, and she was brought to the nearby U.S. Coast Guard facility for her flight to the hospital, officials said.
The driver, who remained at the scene, was cooperative with police, who were investigating what happened.
