Cardi B just proved her star power once again. Her highly anticipated second album “Am I the Drama?” went platinum the same day it dropped, certified by the Recording Industry Association of America within 24 hours of release.
But there’s more to the story.
The speedy-track to platinum status wasn’t based solely on new material. The project includes Cardi’s mega-hits “WAP” and “Up,” which were released years ago but still pack enough streaming power to push an album over the one-million unit mark. “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion is already nine times platinum, and “Up” holds five platinum plaques of its own.
While some fans celebrated the win, others noted the clever inclusion of her biggest songs as a strategic move. Interestingly, tracks like “Bongos,” “Enough (Miami),” and “Like What (Freestyle)” didn’t make the final cut.
Cardi herself hinted months ago that “WAP” and “Up” deserved a place on the album even if they wouldn’t count toward first-week Billboard 200 numbers due to their earlier release dates.
Her debut album “Invasion of Privacy” made history with every song going platinum or better. immediately, “Am I the Drama?” is adding more weight to her growing legacy.
