The pop superstar, 79, has been dating the 39-year-old track executive for three years, but she’s adamant age has never been an issue for the couple. During an interview on CBS Mornings, host Gayle King asked Cher about criticism over the age-gap and the singer replied: “Whatever.
“They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”
Cher then insisted Alexander doesn’t have a problem with the age difference, saying: “No [he doesn’t], thank God. He just says: ‘You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger’.”
She added of her man: “We laugh all the time, you know? I just love him. I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”
Cher also revealed she gets on well with Alexander’s six-year-old son Slash from a previous relationship, saying: “I used to say: ‘God, give me a toddler and a man,” before adding she got “exactly” what she asked for.
She said of Slash: “He’s so funny. He’s so smart. He’s a delight.”
During the interview, Gayle, 70, also asked Cher how she feels about getting older, saying: “I keep waiting for this grown-up feeling to kick in. And I don’t have any hang-ups about aging. Do you?”
Cher replied: “Yes. I hate it. I’m 10 years older than you, babe.”
Gayle told the singer: “But I think we’re we’re wiser. We’re more experienced,” and Cher replied: “Oh, I’m stupid. I’m not wiser.”
It comes after Cher joked she had to start dating younger men because they are the “only ones” left.
The singer was initially married to Sonny Bono in the 1960s and then to Gregg Allman in the 1970s but joked the reason she is immediately in a relationship with Alexander is because all of the lovers she has had that were around her age have passed away.
Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Cher explained: “The reason I got with younger men is because men my age are older … immediately they’re all dead.
“But before, they were all just terrified to approach me, and younger men were the only ones.”
The Believe hitmaker added she was “nervous” when she first met her boyfriend even though she knew the people in his inner circle and noted that she can be “really shy” when it comes to the opposite sex.
She said: “I was nervous and I knew of the people around him, and it wasn’t that they were bad people, it was just that I was nervous of his reputation. I mean, I’m really shy when I’m not working and kinda shy around men.”
