Despite being almost 100 years old, age hasn’t dulled Dick Van Dyke‘s wit.
The 99-year-old knows how keenly everyone is watching him in the lead-up to his next birthday on December 13, when he will be turning 100 years old, and had just the response to break the ice, People reported.
He and his wife, Arlene, attended the Vandy High Tea event at the Vandy Manor in Malibu, California.
Featuring songs and stories from his and his wife’s singing group Dick Van Dyke and The Vantastix, the event raised funds for The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts and the upcoming Dick Van Dyke Museum.
Amid the celebrations, the Mary Poppins star was asked about his upcoming milestone birthday.
”That’s right. I’m not officially 100 until December… Two months. Two months,” he said.
He then added, ”It’d be funny if I didn’t make it.”

All jokes aside, he did provide some wisdom on (almost) being a centenarian.
”I brag sometimes about how I made it to a hundred, and the truth is, if I had known I was going to live this long, I would’ve taken better care of myself,” he said.

“And it is frustrating because I don’t know what I did right. Other than her [Arlene], I didn’t do anything right,” he said, speaking of his wife, 54, whom he married in 2012.
The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang star needs to give himself more credit though, having been spotted working out at the gym recently.
Australian singer Rick Springfield, 76, recently bumped into the Emmy winner at the gym and was impressed by his agility.
“Filming an episode of Men’s Health and I went to the gym and who should be there but 99-year-old Dick Van Dyke working out on every machine,” Springfield revealed sharing a snap the pair took together to Instagram.
“Dick has lived in Malibu for about 30 years and is an awesome human being,” he continued.

“I thought I was doing well at 76, but Dick got up from the chest press machine and did a little dance step before I left! Amazing!”
In the photo shared by Springfield, the two stars sit by a gym machine flexing their biceps as they pose for the lens.
