Dominic Fike is looking back at his audition for Euphoria.
The 29-year-old musician and actor eventually landed the role of Elliot in season two, but he did bomb his audition after staying up the night before, drinking and taking shrooms, as he reveals in a new podcast interview.

“I didn’t know what Euphoria was,” he shared on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard. “I didn’t know it’s this big fu-king TV show. I don’t know who [director] Sam Levinson is. I don’t know fu-king even Barbie [Ferreira] or Zendaya or any of the girls.”
“The night before, I was reading about some actor who did his thing fu-ked up or something, maybe it was a week before,” Dominic went on. “So I stayed up all night with this shorty drinking whiskey, taking shrooms. I show up to the audition, or the read, beyond fu-ked up. I’m just laughing at Sam, and everyone’s laughing at me because I’m just laughing at them.”
He then shared how he was “throwing sh-t around” and making fun of Sam‘s outfit, all after arriving 30 minutes late.
“They’re like, ‘Can you do this?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know, probably,’” he recalled. “We started reading it, but then the words started jumping around on the page. I was like, ‘I can’t do this script.’ And they were like, ‘Dom, just go get rest.’ And they were so mad at me. I remember they called my agents and were like, ‘This kid’s never doing anything in Hollywood again, ever. We’re so mad.’”
A year then passed by and Dominic was “trying to buckle down” and work on himself when he got a call from Sam Levinson.
“Sam had rewritten this character that I’d shown up to read, but he wrote it with the qualities of the guy who he saw show up,” he shared. “He writes this guy that’s like, half his character and half the guy that showed up that day. And then I was honest with him. He has a meeting with me. He’s like, ‘Okay, I know that you get fu-cked up, obviously. You have some problems. I have those problems too. We can get someone to help you, but you have to do this. You sign a five year contract. It’s just a formality.’”
“But he’s like, ‘I need to know that you’re not gonna fu-k me on this,’” he continued. “I was like, ‘Brother, I got you.’ At this time, I’m not understanding the stakes, still, of this show.”
Previously, Dominic opened up about how his sober coach on set failed him.
While it hasn’t been confirmed, Dominic is expected to be returning for the show’s upcoming third and final season.
