Upon entering the iHeartRadio studios, Emily Simpson was ready to record what could become one of the most interesting podcast episodes ever. Turning from a reality television personality to a podcast host, she managed to talk Amanda Knox- whose wrongful conviction for a murder and subsequent liberty became a worldwide media frenzy- to come for an exclusive face-to-face interview. Simpson was so excited in announcing her Legally Brunette podcast upcoming episode that she exclaimed it was an episode that would “deep-dive” into Knox’s Hulu documentary series ‘The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox’.
Apparently, the interview would cross more territories, including that of the relationship Knox shares with another controversial public figure Monica Lewinsky, as well as how she feels about the prosecuting attorney who pursued her case incorrectly for years. If one gleans anything from the teasers, it would be that the episode would come dripping with the kind of personal insight that has brought each of these two women into the glare of public consciousness. This comes at a good time as the story of Knox has seen recent resurgence because of the Hulu series that places a fresh frame on the media frenzy which rampaged around her case.
The excitement over the forthcoming episode spilled over almost instantly. One commenter stated they had “been listening to all the podcasts Amanda Knox has been doing – she’s a great speaker!” Another stated that it is, “The collab I didn’t know I needed.” This excitement is an indication that the public has remained fascinated by the views from Knox even years after her ordeal came to an end.
Several took the opportunity to praise Simpson for her hosting and the overall production worth of the podcast. “I love your podcast,” a listener said. “I listen to it as much as I can while working out! I love your knowledge and Shane‘s knowledge. And I love his quick wit and humor!” This view was shared by many who expressed their excitement for the upcoming episode.
The interview comes in as the true crime genre continues to hold a dominant position in the media landscape and the Amanda Knox story is among the most studied cases of the present day. “Just finished watching the show. Have the last episode. Fabulous show. Horrible what she went through,” remarked another juror after viewing the Hulu series.
Another commented on the fact that women should be supporting women in hard times: “Glad Amanda’s story is being told. Can’t wait to listen and series. Women are strong when we stick together.” This perspective marks the transition from Knox’s story from being just a true crime curiosity to a much broader conversation about judicial reform and media accountability.
Most comments centered on speculations about the upcoming episode; however, a few of them snap-shifted to Emily Simpson’s appearance in the promos. “You are aging in reverse! Looking beautiful!” gushed one fan; “Wowww also, you look so snatched Emily omg,” added the other. A much-needed reminder at that moment that Simpson ranks among a respected interviewer and a bona fide reality-star.
Such a significant get only serves to further cement the growing reputation of Simpson’s ‘Legally Brunette’ podcast as a place for the big interviews with big names. Getting Knox in the middle of the resurrection of interest in her story pins Simpson firmly as the show to go to for real talk with some of the more difficult people in the public light.
For those following Knox’s continued witness work through the Innocence Center, which Simpson tagged in the post, the episode will most likely shed some light on how she has turned that traumatic experience into activism. The conversation certainly touches on her work with wrongful conviction organizations and how she has rebuilt her life since returning to the U.S.
An odd pairing to some, the Association between Simpson and Knox: an Orange County reality star interviewing a woman who was catapulted internationally famous by tragedy. However, the warm welcome signals that there is a demand out there today for these cross-disciplinary conversations. Actually, one fan said it better: “This is so cool! The collab I didn’t know I needed.”
