Fox News host Brian Kilmeade apologized for saying mentally ill, homeless people should be killed by lethal injection.
Kilmeade made the comment in reaction to a news story about the fatal stabbing of a woman on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 22.
Decarlos Brown Jr. is federally charged with the murder of Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee.
Brown’s mother said he has a history of schizophrenia.

While covering the story on “Fox & Friends” on Sept. 10, host Brian Kilmeade became emotional and said mentally ill, homeless people should be killed by “involuntary lethal injections.”
“Just kill ’em,” Kilmeade said bluntly.
Co-hosts, Lawrence Jones and Ainsley Earhardt didn’t bat an eye when Kilmeade said mentally ill people should be killed.

Kilmeade apologized on Sunday, Sept. 14, after his comment triggered a furious backlash online.
“In the morning, we were discussing the murder of Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina, and how to stop these kinds of attacks by homeless, mentally ill assailants, including institutionalizing or jailing such people so they cannot attack again,” Kilmeade said.
“today during that discussion, I wrongly said they should get lethal injections,” he continued. “I apologize for that extremely callous remark. I am obviously aware that not all mentally ill homeless people act as the perpetrator did in North Carolina and that so many homeless people deserve our empathy and compassion.”

Kilmeade’s apology fell on deaf ears.
Many called for Fox News to terminate his contract.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom reposted a clip of Kilmeade’s remarks on Twitter accompanied by a proverb: “Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.”
An Arizona Republic reporter wrote:
“This isn’t one of those instances where, should you want to try to defend his comments, you can claim Kilmeade was taken out of context. He said it. Period. It’s right there, easily accessed. And his co-hosts, Lawrence Jones and Ainsley Earhardt, simply moved along with the show, as if casually suggesting that murder was a viable option for struggling people was an acceptable solution.”
