Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj were a dynamic duo just a few years ago. However, a failed signing to Minaj’s Heavy On It imprint may have led to some distance.

During a recent appearance on Keke Palmer’s podcast, Ice got real about what went down. She explained that while Nicki showed interest in signing her after their successful collabs, the offer came after she had already inked two major label deals.
“I really tried to let our lawyers handle everything and our managers. But I was already signed when she was trying to sign me, so I think that’s where the hiccups were ’cause it was really like no room anymore at that point to make a offer. I’m signed to two labels, so that was already a thing,” Ice explained to the actress.
This appeared to create tension that ultimately spilled into private conversations. Those discussions became public last year when Ice Spice’s ex-friend leaked a series of texts, in which she vented about Minaj, even calling her “ungrateful.” At the time, those messages seemed to reflect Ice’s frustration with her rap colleague, though she shared that there is no current bad blood between them.
“It’s all love,” she told Keke.
