The Santa Clarita dentist who went viral over a resurfaced video is speaking out, calling the backlash against her a “smear campaign.”
Dr. Harleen Grewal, who owns Skyline Smiles and MindBody Infusion, faced criticism after a clip resurfaced showing her joking that she gives “different care” to patients who don’t support Trump, even claiming she turns down the laughing gas when Democrats complain. The video, originally posted by her office two years ago, spread again on TikTok and other platforms, leading some patients to say they’re switching dentists.
In a new interview with ABC7, Grewal admitted she made the remarks but insisted they were never meant to be taken literally. She explained the comments came from a roast-style speech at a Republican women’s event. “Just like the Democrats, they make jokes too. We make jokes as well. Why can’t we just take a joke lightheartedly?” she said.
She also emphasized that she had already been investigated by the California Dental Board months ago and was cleared of wrongdoing. According to Grewal, the renewed outrage is less about her work and more about politics, describing it as an attempt to “cancel” her.
Despite her explanation, some Santa Clarita residents say the controversy is troubling. One resident told ABC7, “I hate seeing politics come into a business like this. I don’t think it has a place there, and it really bothers me that that video was made, that that was said.”
While Grewal stands by her record and says she treats her patients like family, the viral video continues to fuel debate about whether politics should have any place in healthcare.
