James Van Der Beek‘s wife Kimberly has shared an emotional video after the Dawson’s Creek reunion on September 22.
James, who played Dawson Leery on the iconic show for six seasons, was forced to back out of the event due to illness, but surprised fans with a virtual message during the show.
Kimberly, 43, thanked fans for supporting the event partnership with F Cancer, and for their support of husband through his cancer battle, saying “I miss my husband” in the clip.

She filmed the video from her hotel bed and explained she just got off the phone with the 48-year-old actor.
“I just got off with James, digesting the whole night tonight, and Michelle Williams was the brainchild of this night. It was such a gift,” she said.
Williams played Jen Lindley on the show. She also thanked Thomas Kail, Williams’ husband who directed Hamilton, for making “so many of the kids’ dreams come true on this trip.”
She called them both “exquisite, very angel humans.”

James, who is currently facing his own battle with colorectal cancer, was unable to attend the event.
Throughout the message from her hotel bed she thanked many of the other cast, including Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Busy Phillips, the director, the production crew and the charity F Cancer for all of their support.
“This night was so special to the whole family, and more importantly, like just feeling my husband fill the entire theatre, and the love for him,” she said.
“We’ll be unwinding this one for a while, but thank you for the love and support and for the prayers, cause right here, front and centre, is my husband on my heart.
“And it was a beautiful night, and I miss my husband. I can’t wait to go see him tomorrow.”
In another post on Instagram Kimberly shared a mirror selfie with Phillips, Williams, and Holmes.
In the caption she noted how grateful she was to be able to spend time with the ladies, although noted it was “so bittersweet”.
“Going deeper with these ladies has been so bitter sweet. They are magic, kind, gifted, heart forward and… sacred. Missed my guy so. But the support and the love has been healing to the core. Will post more along the way. This was a fun spontaneous one as we all ran up and down several flights of stairs to our dressing rooms,” she wrote.
It wasn’t just Kimberly at the event either, with the six kids she shares with James also along for the ride at his request, even though he wasn’t able to come.
The couple share six kids: daughters Olivia, 14, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 9, and Gwendolyn, 6, and sons Joshua, 13, and Jeremiah, 2.
Olivia and Emilia even joined the cast on stage to sing the iconic theme song for the banger TV show at the end of the performance, busting out solos too.
In a video message to the crowd James explained that he was struck down with two stomach viruses.
“I can’t believe I’m not there. I can’t believe I don’t get to see my cast mates, my beautiful cast in person,” he said in his video message, according to People.
