Hallmark Channel is making history this weekend by airing the network’s first-ever gay wedding story movie!
In The Groomsmen: Second Chances, Jonathan Bennett plays Danny, who finds the courage to admit his romantic feelings for his best friend, when he is asked to be the best man at his wedding in Greece.
Second Chances is part of The Groomsmen trilogy, which originally premiered as an exclusive on the Hallmark+ streaming service in October 2024. All three movies, which also star Tyler Hynes and BJ Britt, are today airing on the Hallmark Channel. Second Chances won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film – Streaming or TV.
Jonathan, who executive produced the movie, took to his Instagram account this week to reflect on making history.

Jonathan said, “Our @GLAAD Award-Winning Movie is coming to TV this Saturday! When we set out to tell the story of friendship and love in The Groomsmen, we knew it was special. Then to be recognized by GLAAD as the Best Film of the year, still overwhelms us with gratitude. Gratitude for everyone that helped to put this trilogy of movies together, so we could help show the world that love is for everyone, just like @hallmarkchannel is for everyone. We are proud that this move is the first gay wedding movie in Hallmark history, but we are even more proud to be a part of creating a space where everyone can feel seen. We hope you enjoy watching it this weekend and we hope you see the power of what friendship and love can do.”
Jonathan also had so much praise for Alexander Lincoln, who plays his romantic interest in the movie.

“Alex Lincoln appreciation post: Alex you are the true star of The Groomsmen Second Chances. When I set out to tell the first gay wedding story on Hallmark, I knew that this role would be crucial to the film success. Alex has the thing you can’t explain, he has that ‘it factor’ that makes you love him from the moment he walks into a room, or walks one screen,” Jonathan began in his post.
He continued, “His acting is superbly grounded and raw and real and it makes you lean forward in your seat to movie what he’s saying. This movie couldn’t have turned out the way it did without this man, he was the glue that helped glue The Groomsmen together. Not only does he make us belly laugh daily on set, but he lights up the screen with such a different energy that keeps my character grounded. It’s no wonder he’s becoming a super star in the industry because when you’ve got it, you’ve got it. I will forever be grateful to you, Alex, for coming into our film universe and helping make history at Hallmark and making all of us shine.”
