‘SNL’ Cast Shake-Up Complete: Michael Che, Ego Nwodim, Chloe Fineman, Mikey Day, Kenan Thompson & Bowen Yang All Returning https://t.co/5koKJ7Pm0h
— Deadline (@DEADLINE) September 8, 2025
• Following a pretty big night for the SNL50 special at the Creative Arts Emmys, it was announced that the promised and hyped shakeup at SNL was over. And the result? Somehow there are more people on the SNL cast than there were last season.
• Following the firing of Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Michael Longfellow, and the departure of Heidi Gardner, the show announced five new cast members. That is the most new cast members added to the show at one time since season 39 (2013-2014 season), a season notorious for the amount of one-season-wonders it produced. Of the 7 newbies, only 3 made it to season 40.
• The cast immediately features 18 cast members with Kenan Thompson on his 23rd season (we’re inching closer and closer to a host, musical guest, or cast member who was born after Kenan first joined the cast), Colin Jost on his 14th season as a cast member (20th season as a writer), and Michael Che on his 13th season. Mike Day is the next longest tenured cast member, with 10 seasons on cast but 13 seasons as a writer on the show.
