The Aussie Hunger Games star, 35, and brother of Chris Hemsworth, took over playing Geralt of Rivia in the anthem show for season four, with some fans criticising the move.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth said he was “surprised” at being approached for the iconic role and said he tried his best not to pay attention to the critics, with the show and books and games having devout fans.

He said he took a break from social media for a lengthy amount of time.
“I was as surprised as anyone,” he told the publication about being offered to play the role.
“There was quite a bit of noise and I had to put that aside. It started to become a distraction.”
He also praised Cavill, 42, his acting predecessor and said: ”I’m a massive fan of Henry’s, and I’m a fan of what he did in the show.”

Netflix recently dropped a teaser clip showing Hemsworth in the role, with the new season set to drop next month.
In 2022, Cavill said he was leaving his role in The Witcher.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf,” he said at the time in an Instagram post.
There were rumours he wanted to stay close to the source material, but leading executive producer, Lauren Hissrich told Entertainment Weekly Cavill wanted to take on some other roles at the time.

Hemsworth copped backlash for taking over the role.
It comes after Hemsworth confirmed his engagement to his Aussie model girlfriend, Gabriella Brooks.
Brooks, 29, excitedly announced the news of the pair’s engagement on Instagram, showing off her stunning diamond ring presented to her by the actor.
She captioned the post with a simple white love heart emoji, before being inundated with congratulatory messages from fans and followers.
Hemesworth also shared the post on his Instagram, sharing a black and white photo of the pair together.
Just last month, Brooks was seen flashing a ring on her ring finger, sparking engagement rumours.
Hemsworth was previously married to singer and actress Miley Cyrus, but they announced their split in mid 2019.
