Louis Partridge is raging he isn’t Irish. We tell him we’ll claim him on the red carpet of House of Guinness and he tells us, “Please!”
He’s playing Edward Guinness in the upcoming Netflix series and the English man confessed it was “daunting” to take on the role.
“It was a little bit daunting being a fish out of water. But it really did help listening to all the Irish accents,” he tells VIP Magazine about mastering the Irish accent.
It’s a tough one to be fair!
“Being around them all, really helped me get into it. And going out drinking with them really helped us all bond. I’ve known a fair amount of Irish people in my time, so this was a real chance to get in there. The belly of the beast!”
The upcoming Stephen Knight series is set in Dublin in the 1800s but it filmed between Liverpool and Manchester.
“I was [sad that I didn’t get to film in Dublin]. It would have been really cool,” he confesses.
“There’s so much of Ireland I want to see, so I could have only imagined the trips on the weekend down to goodness knows where! I’ve been planning a roadtrip around Ireland for a year and a half today. I’m going to do that someday and hopefully a couple of people recognise me from the show!” he laughs.

Daunting is a word he used to describe his experience on House of Guinness. And playing a member of the Guinness dynasty is no easy feat.
“It was semi-fictionalised, so this guy existed but a few of the details were definitely embellished or even made up. While I did look at the history I wasn’t too caught up if it wasn’t all completely accurate. Ultimately what you have to discount with is what’s on the page,” he admits.
“What was more daunting was that it was a Guinness, any Guinness name! That I’m not Irish! No one really knows much about Edward or Arthur in this period of time. So it felt like a blank slate, time to show up and just give these characters as favourable a representation as possible and make them fun and interesting and rounded.”

Louis got his big break on Netflix’s Enola Holmes film alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill. Another piece that takes place in the 1800s. Next up he has Pride and Prejudice! Clearly he’s a fan of the time period…and the costumes!
“I’m doing Pride and Prejudice at the moment, which is 1813. So I’m back in the gear,” he laughs.
“It’s slightly different because it’s Regency era so it’s amazing, amazing costumes. But I got tired of a starch collar very quickly. It’s literally like a corset for your neck. I would love to throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt!”
