Mariah Carey has finally done and fulfilled what her devoted Lambs had always wanted and so much more! The diva went on social media with an intimate video message of her own to promote her personally signed cds, sending the fans into a frenzy. In the video, Carey sat behind a table filled with copies of her collection, smiling warmly to her followers; she said, “Darlings, I’m signing for you. There’s a lot. There are a lot of these here on the table, but they’re all for you. And I love this.”
The post was captioned “Signed CDs available today!!!” with hashtags pushing her current era-however, what really happened was anything but simple straightforward. Wholly and complete confusion took over the sellers’ websites as, just within minutes of the announcement, places where there used to be purchase today buttons were starting to flash “sold out” messages because, along with in-store sales, she had completely sold out of her Web store within about sixty minutes.
International reactions swiftly started pouring in with full force. A user anchored in Australia is famous for saying, “I love you so much when I click on the link to purchase it says ‘page not found’ I’m in Australia.” It seemed this issue of geographical limitation kept occurring, with another fan based in the UK stating in all straightforwardness, “Oh look nothing for uk as per usual.”
Several fans blamed scalping and bulk-buyers, claiming that unscrupulous people had bought multiple copies just to reap profits. “People over bought and are scalping. I’m so mad,” one disgruntled fan commented. Another begged Mariah herself, “Can you sign more? Scalpers bought all of them. I was waiting every day to see if you’d sign any, and they bought them all so speedy just to hoard and scalp.”
The timing of the announcement was also problematic for many fans with their day jobs and other responsibilities. “I’m a teacher. I’m in the classroom all day. I can’t ever catch these early morning drops. Can I get a special signed version?” questioned one, a sentiment shared by another educator: “Mariah bae, why did you post this in the middle of the school day?”
Mixed with all of the disappointment were sparkles of hope. One elated fan screamed, “Yay, was able to order! Thank u for doing this! So glad I saw this on time!” and another thanked his “purchasing agent” for getting one through the digital stampede.
This is a perfect example of the ongoing struggle artists go through to keep special editions versus an impossible amount of demand from their fans. For Carey, with a decades-long history with her Lambs, the emotional benefit put into a physically signed item is just the rate that Carey herself places higher than her management ever has or even could.

Some even joked about one of the perennial age questions: “Ms. Mariah where are we going to get a cd player from?” But most understand that these signed CDs were gifts to collect rather than to actually use.
As the comments kept pouring in hours after the sell-out, the story finally changed from excited hopping to desperate begging. “Mariah please restock them i missed one,” pleaded one, while another asked, “Will these be restocked? Someone give me good news.”
Yet to announce any signings as of today, the thousands of Lambs’ refreshed browsers will surely make Carey’s team hopeful. But for today, this moment stands as a testament to the timeless appeal of Carey and the sheer frenzy that sweeps her worldwide fanbase-willingness of the fans to crash websites and sell out all the merchandise in a matter of minutes.
