Thunderstorms and rain showers are expected to continue across Eastern Massachusetts Friday night as a cold front moves east.
Downpours across the state have resulted in over 1 inch of precipitable water, according to the National Weather Service. These downpours in urban areas could result in localized street flooding and poor visibility that could impact the evening commute. The Boston-to-Providence metro areas are likely to continue to see rain until 11 p.m.
“We’ve already seen a lot of 1 to 1 and a half inches per hour rainfall rates with minor street flooding in the Providence area,” forecasters wrote.
Forecasters also noted that this storm has caused winds to go up, with wind gusts reaching 35 to 45 mph.
Boston specifically could see winds reach 5 mph, with showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., forecasters said. Rainfall totals could be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, with potentially more to come.
Conditions should be dry and cooler on Saturday. Forecasters called the weekend weather “a taste of fall,” though some clouds could produce some sprinkles.
For the next week, forecasters anticipate dry, seasonable weather for most of the week before a cold front brings another chance for scattered showers on Thursday and Friday.
