
The Africa Center for Hospitality, Aviation, and Tourism has partnered with GUBA Enterprises, Access Media, and KAYA to launch Africa Week UK, a new three-day event that will celebrate African culture, creativity, and commerce.
The inaugural event will take place from October 2–4 at Woolwich Works in London. The date coincides with the start of UK Black History Month. Highlight speakers set for the inaugural edition include H.E. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, who will give a keynote speech, Dr. Adesegun Adeosun Jnr, CEO of SMADE Entertainment, and co-founder of the popular Afro Nation beat and culture festival, and UK-Ghana film & TV executive, Tim Yaw Struthers, who serves as Strategic Advisor, Global engagement to Ghana’s National Film Authority, Executive Producer of the Change Africa podcast, and Head of Original Brands at Sky.
Other speakers include Bell Ribeiro-Addy, MP, Alex Apau Dadey, Executive Chairman of the KGL Group, Kojo Marfo, Founder of My Runway Group and Vice Chair of the Mayor of London’s Black Community Advisory Group, Dentaa Amoateng, CEO of GUBA Enterprise, Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Africa Centre for Hospitality, Aviation & Tourism, Kojo Soboh, Founder and Executive Director of EMY Africa, journalist and broadcaster Afua Hagan, and Claudia Kwarteng Lumor, Founder of Glitz Africa.
Alongside panel sessions, the event will also feature live performances and fashion showcases featuring designers from across the African continent, alongside sessions on investment and diplomacy.
Festival organizers said they have set plans for the event to be annual and serve as a concrete outlet for African and UK industries to connect, while “highlighting the contributions of Africans and the diaspora to Britain’s economy and creative sectors.”
