
Melissa McCarthy will star in a live-action adaptation of the beloved children’s book Miss Nelson is Missing for Netflix!
The 55-year-old actress will play the title role in the film. Brad Copeland is set to adapt the book, which was written by Harry Allard and illustrated by James Marshall, reports Deadline.

The books revolve around a rowdy class of kids whose teacher, Miss Nelson, mysteriously vanishes one day. But after spending a week with her tough substitute, Viola Swamp, the students become desperate for Miss Nelson to return. Melissa is expected to play both Viola Swamp and Miss Nelson.
Deadline reveals that production on this project is moving forward quickly because of its popular source material and the involvement of a big star like Melissa, who has worked with Netflix several times in the past alongside her husband Ben Falcone.
The couple’s previous Netflix projects include the films Superintelligence and Thunder Force, plus the comedy series God’s Favorite Idiot. Ben and Melissa will produce Miss Nelson is Missing under their banner On the Day Productions. Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter are also onboard to produce for Hello Sunshine.
