BOSTON – The Boston University men’s swimming & diving program posted two records and nine total leading-three performances to highlight the second day of the Terrier Invite on Saturday (Nov. 22) at the FitRec Competition Pool.
After slotting in second place following the first day, BU overtook Boston College for first place in the team standings with 975 points after day two.
BU’s 200 medley relay featured seniors Tony Ponomarev and Ben Cho on the front and back ends, respectively, as well as juniors Ethan Huynh and Henry Dvorak. The quartet posted a time of 1:28.09 to break the school record previously set a season ago.
While that group ignited the night, the 800 freestyle relay wrapped the festivities. Senior Nathan Lee, junior Jonny Farber and sophomores Giovanni Sullo and Charlie Nenchev captured first place in 6:34.84, setting a FitRec pool record that Boston College previously set in 2021.
In his Terrier Invite debut, freshman Ethan Zhou was victorious in the 400 individual medley as he teamed up with Sullo to secure the leading two times in the event. Zhou was first in 3:53.91, only two-hundredths faster than Sullo.
Lee also reached the podium in the 200 freestyle, hitting the touchpad at 1:38.14 for a second-place result.
Following up his record-setting contribution to begin the night, Huynh competed in the 100 breaststroke and was second in 55.18 seconds. Freshman Dimitri Melnikov was right behind him in third at 55.34 seconds as the Terriers captured 70 total points in the event’s A Final.
Five Terriers qualified for the A Final in the 100 backstroke. Ponomarev led the contingent in that event at 48.67 seconds, good for second place. BU recorded 86 points in the A Final for their efforts.
Earlier in the day, junior Zein Mahana notched a zones-qualifying score of 315.50 in the 1-meter dive and placed third, leading the Terriers.
The Terrier Invite concludes on Sunday (Nov. 23). The preliminaries are set for 10 a.m. and the finals begin at 6 p.m.
