CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 8 UConn women’s hockey defeated the Boston College Eagles, 3-1 on Friday evening at Conte Forum. UConn came from behind and scored three unanswered goals in the final two periods to extend the Huskies win streak to four straight games.
In the first period, UConn had two early power-play opportunities, but they could not capitalize, with several shots by Julia Pellerin being blocked by Boston College defenders.
Boston College took the lead midway through the first period, giving the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. UConn netminder Tia Chan made several saves to keep the deficit at one, but the period ended with Boston College holding a 1–0 advantage. Shots favored the Eagles, 11-3 in the first period.
The second period saw UConn break the deadlock midway through the period when sophomore forward Claire Murdoch scored her third goal of the season, bringing the score to 1-1. UConn’s defense held strong, with Julia Stephen blocking key shots early in the period. Chan was active in goal, making crucial saves against Boston College’s attempts. A late penalty on Boston College gave the Huskies a power play, but they were unable to capitalize before the period ended, keeping the game knotted at 1-1. Shots favored the Eagles in the second period, 9-7.
In the third period, UConn capitalized on their opportunities to secure a decisive victory over Boston College. Sophomore forward Sadie Hotles scored the game-winning goal with under four minutes remaining in the game, giving UConn their first lead of the game, 2–1.
Boston College pulled their goaltender in a last-ditch effort to find an equalizer, but UConn’s senior captain Kyla Josifovic sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the closing minute of the game. Chan made several key saves throughout the period, ensuring the 3–1 win for UConn. Chan finished with 31 saves in the game.
