Paige DeSorbo addressed her decision to leave Summer House, and she hinted at reality TV’s “brainwashing.” The star also alluded to an ex-boyfriend who acted like a “principal.”
Last year, Paige broke up with Southern Charm’s Craig Conover, who suggested he was blindsided. Despite her exit from the show, Paige still co-hosts her popular Giggly Squad podcast with best friend Hannah Berner.
In an interview for Byrdie, Paige addressed her choice to walk away from the show.
“I just had this overwhelming sense that I couldn’t go back,” said the star. “I know I would’ve been doing a disservice to [the show]. They expect a certain level of showing up, and I couldn’t give them that.”
“I definitely had to get over the [feeling] that my career would be over,” Paige added. “There’s an element of thinking you need that show and network, and Hannah was reminding me they’re not in charge of where you are in your career.”
She then reflected on her reality TV journey.
“Being on reality TV, there’s a level — this is a harsh word — of, like, brainwashing,” said Paige, who shared that she felt pressure to express every thought. “That’s not real life. You’re not stopping people on the street and being like, ‘I just had a thought that I hate my boyfriend.’ … [The podcast] allows me to process things first, and then tell the Gigglers.”
According to Paige, her friendship with co-host Hannah isn’t that complicated.
“I had a boyfriend once, and he worked with one of his friends,” said Paige cryptically. “He was very adamant to me about how it’s not easy working with your friend. He would always be like, ‘It’s a clear boundary. Once a week you have a phone call where it’s just the two of you, just talking about work stuff.’ I was like, ‘What are you, our principal?’”
“[Hannah and I are] co-parenting,” Paige went on. “The podcast is our baby. We have agents, and managers, and all of that—and they can all talk to each other and be doing their jobs. But at the end of the day if something is fucked up we’re the only two people talking.”
