EXCLUSIVE: Secuoya Studios has hired Andrés Zamora to head a new Global Pre-Sales and Distribution division. Zamora is a seasoned exec and joins Madrid-based Secuoya Studios after a decade at Sony Pictures Entertainment.
It is a key hire as the Studios division of Secuoya Content Group ramps up under CEO Brendan Fitzgerald. It has been inking first-look, or pod, deals with producers across fiction and docs. As projects get greenlit and the pipeline of content begins to flow, Secuoya Studios will be looking to make the numbers stack up with pre-sales.
Secuoya Studios is based in Madrid but most of the pods being set up are based outside of the country and have been created to yield movies, series and docs for the global market.
Fitzgerald broke down the strategy in an exclusive interview with Deadline last month, and after Secuoya Studios had set up its new pod, with documentary filmmaker Chris Moukarbel. The hope, when fully up and running, is for about 15 projects a year, he said. While the company is working with established distribs such as Beta Film on global sales and will continue to do so, that still leaves room for pre-selling and select distribution deals.
This is where Zamora comes in as head of the the newly-minted Global Pre-Sales and Distribution division. “Andrés brings valuable expertise in pre-sales and international distribution, which is essential as we accelerate our global expansion,” said Fitzgerald, who also joined Secuoya from Sony. “His appointment is a natural step within our growth strategy and an additional driver to ensure our stories travel and connect with diverse audiences.”
As well as Sony, Zamora has worked in sales at indie producer and distributor Avalon, Sky, Global Screen, and Deutsche Welle. “I am thrilled to join Secuoya Studios, a company that is positioning itself as a key player in the industry both in Spain and abroad,” he said. “I look forward to contributing my distribution experience to support the studio’s global expansion strategy and to help creators bring their stories to the widest possible audiences.”
Secuoya Studios has deals pod with partners including Sergio Pizzolante and his Miami-based Ctmobs, Guy Avshalom’s BlackBox Multimedia out of the UK, and Sydney Gallonde in France. There are also deals with Mónica Aguirre’s Black Sheep in LatAm, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Hörður Rúnarsson’s Act4 for the Nordics, as well as several Spain-focused pods spanning fiction and unscripted content.
