Two protesters were arrested at the vigil held at the Boston Common Thursday night for assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
One of them, an unnamed juvenile, allegedly punched an attendee wearing a MAGA hat. One was a protester police say wouldn’t turn off his amplification device and got into a “shouting match” with them. Then there is the viral video of a protester wiping themself with a U.S. flag, but that didn’t lead to an arrest.
Juvenile
“(Expletive) you, (expletive) you, fascist,” a juvenile dressed in all black and sporting a ponytail told vigil attendees as he leaned against a barrier and gave them both middle fingers, according to a police report.
The juvenile was within the area with vigil attendees and not outside the barrier with other protesters, who the Herald reported were chanting similar things.
A Boston Police Department sergeant approached the juvenile and told him that he needed to leave the event area and if he wanted to continue his behavior he had to be with the other protesters outside the barriers, according to the police report.
The juvenile initially walked with the sergeant to exit the area but then allegedly punched an attendee wearing a Make America Great Again hat.
Police moved to arrest the teen and found a 7-inch Bowie-style hunting knife in his waistband, according to the report. He faces delinquency charges of assault and battery in the presence of police, disturbing the peace and carrying a dangerous weapon.
Loudspeaker
Also arrested was 38-year-old Joseph Antuana Castrodelrio, who engaged in a “shouting match” with police. Police say he was “making loud proclamations” against attendees through the use of a microphone and speaker, and ignored officers’ repeated demands that he turn off his speaker and leave the area.
“Castrodelrio’s loud and tumultuous behavior attracted a crowd that included dozens of television DSLR[s] and persons recording the incident on their cellphones,” the report states.
Officers escorted Castrodelrio to outside the barriers and unplugged his amplification device, according to the report. But when officers returned to their posts, “Castrodelrio re-plugged in his speaker and began re-broadcasting offensive comments directed at the group peaceably assembled.”
Police again told him that his amplification was a violation of a city ordinance, the report states. So Castrodelio unplugged his speaker but allegedly continued his “tirade while shouting at the best of his voice.”
“Suspect continued his loud and aggressive shouting, demanding to see the city ordinance he was violating, accusing officers of past and present crimes, and calling officers names such as ‘fascists,’ ‘Nazis,’ and ‘white supremacists,” the report states.
He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and use of a loud amplification device.
Flag wiper
A video spreading across social media shows a protester rip a small U.S. flag in half, wipe themselves under the pants, and then throw the smeared flag at vigil attendees. Those sharing the video, including original uploader Instagram user @SpicyBoston, purport this took place at the Kirk vigil at Boston Common but the Herald cannot independently confirm that.
