Last weekend’s runaway winner at the box office, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, led the box office once again this weekend with a $17.3 million haul. It has made $103 million total at the US box office, smashing records for anime films, and $555 million worldwide. Though it fell a steep 75% from its opening weekend, its haul was still plenty to keep it in first place against new challengers.
One of those challengers was Him, which came in second place at the box office with $13.5 million, slightly less than it was tracking to make this weekend. This take for the $27 million film came in spite of negative critical and audience reviews, which will probably hurt its legs.
The other big new release of the weekend was A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, whose box office did not live up to its name with only $3.5 million in sales for sixth place. This is far under what tracking predicted, perhaps thanks in part to the middling to bad critical and audience reception, and makes the $45 million rate tag sting.
In third place at the box office was The Conjuring: Last Rites, which pulled in about $13 million to bring its domestic gross to $151 million. It’s made $400 million globally.
Tied for fourth as of today are The Long Walk and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale with identical $6.3 million projections. The Long Walk fell only 46% from its first weekend, while Downton tumbled 66%. The true numbers will be in on Monday, but domestically, The Long Walk has made an estimated $22.7 million, while Downton has made $31.6 million.
