Flights at Boston’s Logan airport were temporarily grounded Thursday amid an ongoing runway construction project and rainy weather conditions.
There were already delays, of over three hours on average, at the airport before the FAA issued what’s known as a ground stop, effective from 1:20 through 2:45 p.m. Both alerts cited runway construction; Massport cited thunderstorms.
The airport has closed a major runway for 100 days to refurbish it.
The busiest runway at Boston’s Logan airport is empty, closed for a key safety upgrade. The construction means some delays.
The ground stop also noted weather conditions, including falling ceilings. Heavy rain was falling across the Boston area Thursday, causing flooding in southeastern Massachusetts.
FlightAware’s MiseryMap showed Boston as the only major U.S. airport to have a majority of its flights delayed or canceled on Thursday at 2 p.m.
