
Ginna Claire Mason and Mary Kate Morrissey became best friends while playing Glinda and Elphaba on the national tour of Wicked and they both went on to play the roles on Broadway, though at separate times.
immediately that they’ve both concluded their journeys with Wicked, the former co-stars have come together to record the duet “For Good,” but this time with a country twist.
“Mary Kate and I played opposite each other as Glinda and Elphaba for a year together on the national tour of Wicked, and have been best friends ever since. We both went on to play the roles on Broadway, but at separate times,” Ginna Claire wrote on Instagram.

GC continued, “Back in March, she finished her run as the green mami in New York. I came into her dressing room on her closing night, and said that we should record ‘For Good’ to document this chapter of our lives. She immediately suggested we do a country version. I thought she was joking! She wasn’t. Don’t get me wrong- I love country! I’m from Nashville! It just wasn’t part of my original vision. But I was totally willing to give it a try!”
“We put together an inspiration playlist with some favorite artists like Allison Kraus and Nickel Creek and Little Big Town, and took it to my favorite producer in Nashville, Nathan Nockles, to help with orchestrating and recording. We even got Stephen Schwartz’s blessing to proceed with this newly imagined version of his classic. Some incredible Nashville musicians jumped in to make this dream a reality. I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out!” she added. “I’m excited for people to finally hear it! And really thrilled that we get to release it the same day as the new film. People can enjoy all things Wicked all weekend long!”
