Boston College falls to 3-3 while The Crimson improves to 3-3.
Lily Carmody registered a personal-high 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field with five rebounds. Amirah Anderson turned in her best performance of her young career with a career-best 18 points on seven field goals and four boards.
Ava McGee led BC on the glass with eight rebounds, collected a team-high three steals, and scored eight points, while Athena Tomlinson dished out seven assists with eight points and four boards.
Boston College trailed by eight points in the third quarter with 4:25 left before Tomlinson started an 8-2 surge that was capped off by Carmody, slicing the gap to 43-41 going into the fourth quarter.
The Eagles clawed back midway through the fourth when McGee’s driving layup gave BC its first lead of the second stanza, 51-50. For the final 4:56, it was a back-and-forth affair in which neither team led by more than two points. McGee once again stepped up with a jumper that tied up the game, 59-59, which forced overtime after both teams were unable to score in the last 1:07 of regulation.
Harvard took control in overtime, as it anthem the first layup in the extra period and never looked back. The Crimson took advantage at the line and scored nine of its points at the charity stripe. BC struggled from the floor, hitting just one field goal, leading to the win for the visitors.
Carmody and Anderson highlighted the first quarter with 15 points, including a 7-0 run at the end of the first to give BC an 18-12 cushion. The defense forced Harvard into six turnovers in the frame and 31.3 percent shooting.
Anderson continued her strong play with a field goal to begin the second to give the Eagles their largest lead of the game, 20-12. Harvard responded late in the quarter by hitting five of its final seven shot attempts to end the half with a 27-24 edge.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday against UMass at noon in Amherst.
