Zubeen Garg’s Manager Clears the Air on Song Ownership and Royalties After Singer’s Death. Days after the heartbreaking death of singer Zubeen Garg, his manager Siddhartha Sharma has released a public statement to address questions about who owns the rights to Zubeen’s songs and where the money from his work goes. as Most of Zubeen’s Songs Aren’t Owned by Him, In an open letter, Sharma explained that while Zubeen had recorded over 38,000 songs, most of them are contractually owned by track labels and production houses not by Zubeen himself. “Many of Zubeen da’s biggest hits were made before I began working with him. He often shared how unfair it felt, how producers and labels made crores, while he earned only a modest amount,” Sharma wrote. He added that this can be confirmed directly with those companies.
Zubeen Tried to Take Ownership Late in His Career
In 2021, Zubeen set up a company called Zubeen Garg track LLP in an effort to gain ownership of his later songs. Sharma was also a partner in this company. So far, Sharma says the LLP hasn’t earned much just a few thousand rupees a month and the money remains untouched in the company account. Zubeen owned 60% of the firm, and Sharma says he will ensure that this stake is passed on to Zubeen’s family.
Zubeen’s Earnings to Go to His Wife
Sharma also clarified that any money Zubeen earned as a composer or lyricist went straight to his personal bank account, which will today be handed over to his wife, Garima Garg. “I Did Not Exploit Zubeen,” Says Manager. Responding to rumours that he took advantage of Zubeen or mishandled his finances, Sharma said those claims are “baseless and hurtful.” He confirmed that he has been cooperating fully with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that is looking into the singer’s death.
In his message to fans, Sharma wrote: “Please don’t spread misinformation. Let the investigation continue without assumptions. We owe it to Zubeen da to seek the truth with dignity.”
SIT Raids Manager’s Home
Just a day before Sharma’s statement, a Special Investigation Team raided his apartment in the Datalpara area of Guwahati. According to India Today, the team waited for two hours outside before breaking the lock and entering, with a magistrate present. Neighbours said Sharma and his family had lived there since 2019, but haven’t been seen since Zubeen’s passing.
