At least five people died in Michigan after severe storms on Thursday night led to heavy rain, strong wind gusts and possible tornadoes.
Three people were killed in Kent County in western Michigan, according to Sgt. Eric Brunner, a spokesman for the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. Two more were killed in Ingham County, Mich., the county’s emergency management department said in a post on Facebook.
The National Weather Service, which on Thursday had warned that wind gusts may be up to 70 miles per hour, said on Friday that it would be conducting damage survey on two suspected tornadoes in Michigan. More than 600,000 customers in Michigan and Ohio were without power early in the day, according to poweroutage.us, which aggregates data from utilities across the United States.
