The weather should cooperate for those trying to catch a glimpse of the eclipse as it passes over New England, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service.
Any clouds hanging around tomorrow should be sparse and thin enough to allow the light of the sun — or lack thereof — to squeeze through during Monday’s solar eclipse.
“The first half of the week is looking dry and quiet. There could be some clouds increasing tomorrow late in the afternoon, but for folks heading out to see the ellipse in parts of our area those clouds should be thin enough that they don’t cause any issues,” NWS Meteorologist Bill Leatham told the Herald.
Monday will be sunny and warm in and around Boston, Leatham said, with high temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s and a very light breeze. Clouds roll in through the afternoon, according to the meteorologist, and by nightfall it will be cloudy with lows in the mid-40s.
Tuesday should be mostly sunny, though chillier, with a high in the mid-50s. The breeze shifts to the east by afternoon but remains below 10 mph, according to the weather service, and overnight lows should hover near 40 degrees.
The first April showers of the week could come by Wednesday, when cloudy skies are expected and the weather service is forecasting a 40% chance of rain after noon. High temperatures are likely to top out in the mid-50s.
The chance of rain increases overnight heading into Thursday, jumping to 60%, and the temperatures could fall to the mid-40s.
Rain is likely on Thursday, Leatham said, when the weather service expects cloudy skies, a high in the upper-50s and a 60% chance of rain. The wind becomes “breezy” overnight, according to the weather service, when the low temperature is expected to stay in the mid-50s.
“It’s looking like another round of widespread rain, potentially even a couple of thunderstorms. There is still some uncertainty on the exact timing, but it’s looking unsettled for Thursday,” he said.
More of the same is called for Friday, when the chance of rain jumps to 80% and the wind picks up. Gusts over 35 mph are expected, though it should be a fairly warm day with a high near 68 degrees, according to the weather service.
Rain clears overnight Friday going into the weekend, which Leatham said could be partly to mostly sunny with comfortable temperatures approaching the low-60s.
“It doesn’t look like a washout at this point, but obviously we’ll know more about the weekend as we get a little closer to it,” he said.
