D.C.-area forecast: A cooler than normal but generally nice workweek ahead

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

7/10: It feels more like late March than late April but a lot to like about sunny and 65.

  • Today: Mostly sunny. Highs: 60 to 65.
  • Tonight: Mostly clear, chilly. Lows: 34 to 42.
  • Tomorrow: Sunny, breezy. Highs: 65 to 70.

Temperatures are cooler than normal for the next several days, but there’s little to complain about. Except for a few possible showers on Wednesday, sunny weather stays in control as high temperatures range through the 60s. Warmer weather arrives over the weekend.

Tonight: For a second straight night, our colder areas west of Interstate 95 could see a bit of frost. Under clear skies and light winds, lows range from the mid-30s in our colder areas to the low to mid-40s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): This looks like one of the week’s nicest days. After a chilly start, afternoon highs rise up to 65 to 70. A steady breeze from the south kicks in at around 10 to 15 mph with some higher gusts. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Clouds increase, and it’s not as cool as previous nights. We can’t totally rule out a shower toward morning with lows 50 to 55. Confidence: Medium-High

On Wednesday, a passing cool front brings a chance of showers — mainly between the morning and early afternoon hours. During the second half of the day, sunshine should reemerge with highs 65 to 70. It does turn rather windy during the afternoon with some gusts from the west up to 30 mph or so. It turns less windy overnight, but it’s chilly with lows near 40. Confidence: Medium-High

We see a steady warming trend between Thursday and Sunday. Thursday’s high is only near 60, but we’re up to 65 on Friday, near 70 on Saturday and close to 80 on Sunday. Thursday and Friday are mostly sunny while weekend skies are more partly sunny. We can’t rule out a shower late Saturday or late Sunday but the balance of the weekend is probably dry. Lows moderate from near 40 Friday morning to 45 to 50 Saturday morning to 55 to 60 Sunday morning. Confidence: Medium-High
