D.C.-area forecast: Another July gem today. A little warmer tomorrow before holiday heat.

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

9/10: Wait, another July day short of 90 degrees, not humid and still sunny? Let’s celebrate!

  • Today: Sunny, low humidity. Highs: 84-88.
  • Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows: 63-69.
  • Tomorrow: Mostly sunny. Highs: 86-89.

Our start of July is hardly a firecracker, as we steer clear of the 90s for another couple of days with comfortably low humidity. However, by the July Fourth holiday, we’ll return to the more typical D.C. summer soup of hotter 90s, higher humidity and daily thunderstorm chances that will unfortunately complicate holiday planning despite potentially providing much-needed rain.

Today (Tuesday): A sunny story with high temperatures rebounding to the mid-80s, maybe upper 80s in some spots. Humidity is very low as dew points hold only in the 50s again. Light breezes from the northeast shift to come from the southeast late in the day. Confidence: High

Tonight: Partly cloudy with only a slight pickup in humidity as lows range from the low to upper 60s. Light winds come from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: High

Thursday (Independence Day) brings the heat and humidity, partly sunny skies and a chance of scattered afternoon to evening showers and thunderstorms that could complicate outdoor activities. Highs head to the low-to-mid 90s with the heat index reaching near or above 100. It’s another partly cloudy and muggy night with lows in the 70s. Confidence: Medium

Friday continues partly sunny with hot afternoon highs in the low-to-mid 90s, heat indexes again near or above 100 and scattered afternoon to evening showers and thunderstorms possible. Partly cloudy and muggy Friday night with lows from the mid-70s to near 80. Confidence: Medium

The weekend continues the hot-and-humid narrative with partly sunny skies, highs in the low-to-mid 90s, heat indexes reaching the upper 90s to low 100s and mainly afternoon to evening shower and thunderstorm chances. As of right now, Saturday could see more shower/storm activity than Sunday, but those details could change. Saturday night continues partly cloudy and very muggy with lows in the 70s to near 80. Confidence: Medium
