D.C.-area forecast: Comfortably warm into midweek. Heat and storm chances return July 4.

9/10: Sunshine, breezes, and comfortable highs around 80 or so. Human nature dictates most of us may find one little thing that’s not “perfect.”

  • Today: Sunny, breezy. Highs: Upper 70s to low 80s.
  • Tonight: Mostly clear and comfortable. Lows: Upper 50s to mid-60s.
  • Tomorrow: Mainly bright, calmer wind. Highs: Mid-80s.

A very pleasant start to the week before a weather switch flips back to hot and humid just in time for July 4. We’re sunny with comfortable humidity through Wednesday. Temperatures are refreshingly cooler today before approaching 90 again by Wednesday, then the heat index soars to near or past 100 Thursday into the weekend. With the return of heat and humidity comes a daily storm chance starting Thursday.

Today (Monday): July teases us by starting tamely. We’re sunny with refreshing breezes from the north, gusting to near 25 mph, and highs only in the upper 70s to low 80s. Humidity is very comfortable with dew points in the 50s. Overall, our hottest month of the year is easing us in! Confidence: High

Tonight: Pleasant conditions continue through the evening and overnight with lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s under mostly clear skies. Those breezes from the north should calm down nicely during the evening. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Mainly bright skies with just a few more clouds possible compared to Monday. Temperatures trend a touch warmer, topping out within a few degrees of 85. Humidity should be rather low with dew points remaining in the 50s. Breezes from the east stay fairly light. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Low temperatures should still drop back into the comfortable 60s throughout the region, but we may notice just a hint more humidity. Skies are generally partly cloudy. Confidence: High

Wednesday trends a touch warmer with highs at least in the mid-80s, to perhaps near 90 in the hotter spots. Humidity is still in check for one last day. Sunshine should dominate over any periodic clouds, so wear that sunscreen. It may feel increasingly humid Wednesday night as a moister breeze comes from the south, helping lows to hover in the warmer upper 60s to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

High heat, humidity and afternoon to evening storm chances return Independence Day through at least Saturday. The thermometer alone should get to the mid-90s each day, with higher humidity pushing the peak heat index to at least near 100. Mindfully hydrate! As we get closer to the Fourth, we’ll try to get more detailed as to if and how storms could impact outdoor plans. Confidence: Medium

The heat may decrease slightly by Sunday, but that’s uncertain. Highs should still be at least in the low 90s with moderate to high humidity and a continuing shower and storm chance, and heat index values in the mid-90s to around 100 still in play. Confidence: Low-Medium
