D.C.-area forecast: Heating up today with a shower or storm, higher storm chances tomorrow

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: A few showers and storms, plus a shot at 90 degrees. That gets a lower score in early May than it would June through August.

  • Today: Partly sunny, very warm, a few showers/storms. Highs: Upper 80s to near 90.
  • Tonight: Mild with a chance of showers late. Lows: Mid-60s to near 70.
  • Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy, showers and storms likely at times. Highs: Upper 70s to near 80.

After a few showers and maybe a thundershower this morning, rain chances are lower this afternoon. But they’ll rise again tomorrow with showers and storms likely at times; some could be quite heavy. Showers remain possible Friday and this weekend, but they should be fewer and farther between. As for temperatures, they will peak well into the 80s to near 90 today, then gradually cool into the weekend.

Today (Wednesday): The morning hours are on the muggy side with a few showers and thundershowers possible as temperatures climb through the 70s to near 80. The afternoon should bring somewhat lower humidity as breezes pick up from the west and highs reach the upper 80s to near 90 under partly sunny skies, still with the chance of an isolated shower or storm. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Much of the night should be dry, but shower chances start to increase again late at night, probably after 3 a.m. or so. It’s a mild night with lows only dipping to the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Thursday): Rain chances ramp higher again with a couple of rounds of showers and thunderstorms possible. Some of these could be strong with heavy downpours and gusty winds. Isolated areas of flooding are possible as well. Otherwise we’re mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s to near 80. Medium

Tomorrow night: Some showers and storms could linger during the evening, then just an isolated shower overnight with lows in the mid-50s to near 60. Confidence: Medium

The chance of showers continues on Friday, though any showers that develop should be more isolated and lighter than Thursday. Mostly cloudy morning skies may turn partly sunny by afternoon with cooler highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium

With low pressure overhead this weekend, there’s the potential for a few showers each day despite drier air. Temperatures remain a touch cooler than average with morning lows in the 50s and afternoon highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. Confidence: Low-Medium
