D.C.-area forecast: It keeps getting hotter this week

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: The heat and humidity aren’t too terrible just yet, but it’s probably the first in a long string of 90-plus-degree days.

  • Today: Mostly sunny. Highs: 87 to 92.
  • Tonight: Partly cloudy. Lows: 66 to 74.
  • Tomorrow: Mostly sunny. Highs: 88 to 93.

Slowly but surely, the heat gets worse this week. Highs in the low 90s today and tomorrow crescendo toward 100 Friday into the weekend. It might not be until early or the middle of next week that we will finally see some relief. The pattern is both persistently hot and dry with little chance of rain until perhaps late Sunday.

Today (Monday): As highs climb to near 90 degrees, it’s quite toasty but not yet oppressive. Humidity ticks up compared with the weekend (dew points in the low to mid-60s), but we’ve seen worse. Under mostly sunny skies, winds are light from the south. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: It’s partly cloudy and warm, with lows ranging from the mid-60s in our cooler areas to the low 70s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): It’s not all that different from Monday, with sunny skies and toasty temperatures. Highs are again pretty close to 90 (a little above in our normally hotter areas, with upper 80s in cooler spots) with light winds from the south. It’s a slight touch more humid, with dew points mostly in the mid-60s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Skies are partly cloudy, and it’s another balmy June evening. Lows range from the upper 60s in our cooler spots to the mid-70s downtown. Confidence: High

Wednesday is a lot like Monday and Tuesday: mostly sunny, hot and moderately humid. Highs are in the low 90s for most. Partly cloudy and warm at night with lows from the mid-60s to low 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

We take a step toward more problematic levels of heat on Thursday, with highs rising into the low to mid-90s. It’s somewhat muggy but not oppressively humid. Partly cloudy at night with lows from the upper 60s to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

The worst of the heat is expected between Friday and the weekend, when highs are in the upper 90s to low 100s. Yes, the District has a chance to hit 100 for the first time since 2016. Humidity is moderately high (dew points in the mid-60s), making it feel even a few degrees hotter. Overnight lows in the 70s offer little relief. Dry weather dominates this period, but we could finally see some cooling showers and storms pop up late Sunday. Confidence: Medium
