D.C.-area forecast: Scorching today, with heat indexes reaching 105 to 110

* Heat advisory from noon to 8 p.m. today | Heat warning for Charles County and southern Md. *

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10: Lower thunderstorm chances (with severe weather unlikely), but heat and humidity rise to potentially dangerous levels.

  • Today: Some clouds. Shower/storm chance. Highs: Mid-90s to around 100.
  • Tonight: Showers, storms remain possible. Lows: 70s to around 80.
  • Tomorrow: Strong late-day storms possible. Highs: Mid-90s.
  • Sunday: Less humid. Stray storm? Highs: Around 90 to mid-90s.

Another day, another heat advisory. Heat index values surpassing 105 will increase chances for illness, and don’t plan on much relief tonight. We may even see another one issued for tomorrow, as it remains hot and humid ahead of a weak cold front. This front may set off some strong to severe storms later tomorrow as well. Sunday looks like a one-day break from humidity, though still pretty hot.

Tomorrow (Saturday): Perhaps a bit more sun than Friday in the morning, though we likely still have some clouds around at times. Slightly higher thunderstorm chances, overall, may start as early as midday. A few thunderstorms could have damaging wind gusts near 60 mph and isolated flooding downpours. It’s still uncomfortably hot and humid, with high temperatures in the low and mid-mid-90s feeling as hot as 105. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Showers and storms may continue into the early morning hours, but any strong to severe storms should wane in intensity by late evening. Skies remain mostly cloudy as temperatures bottom out in the upper 60s to mid-70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday: Briefly behind Saturday night’s cold front, we should have less humid air marked by dew points in the 60s. High temperatures should still get to around 90 to mid-90s, though. A mix of sun and clouds is still probable, with only a slight, stray thunderstorm chance midday into mid-afternoon (particularly east and south of town). Confidence: Medium

Sunday night: Partly cloudy with just a stray shower or storm chance. Temperatures only slip into the low-to-mid 70s with humidity already increasing again. Confidence: Medium

Humidity returns with a continued mix of clouds with sunshine Monday and Tuesday. Shower and storm chances are around, particularly Tuesday. High temperatures aim for upper 80s to mid-90s in the hottest spots. Heat index values near 100 degrees are possible. Confidence: Medium
