D.C.-area forecast: Warm and humid next few days with pesky clouds and rain chances

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

5/10: Warm weather is welcome even as the rude sun mostly ghosts us again.

  • Today: Mostly cloudy, scattered showers and storms. Highs: 75-80.
  • Tonight: Cloudy with scattered showers and storms. Lows: 63-68.
  • Tomorrow: Partly cloudy, warmer, shower/storm chance. Highs: 84-89.

Temperatures inch upward today and make another leap tomorrow amid this humid and frequently cloudy weather pattern. Showers and storms are possible any time in the coming days, but should be more common during the afternoon and evenings before a cool front sweeps through Thursday night. Temperatures fall and some sunshine attempt to return Friday into the weekend, but we may still contend with some scattered showers.

It’s a little warmer than Monday with highs in the mid-70s to near 80 along with muggy dew points in the mid-60s. Light winds come mainly from the southeast. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Mostly cloudy again with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible. Lows range through the muggy 60s with light winds from the southeast. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Our warmest day of the week brings middle to upper 80s for highs with some better chances of sunshine at times. Scattered showers and thunderstorms could pop again in the afternoon. Winds are from the west and southwest at 5 to 15 mph with slightly lower humidity (dew points in the low 60s). Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: We’ll have a chance of a few showers or a thunderstorm along with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Lows are only in the warm mid-to-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Thursday is a mostly cloudy day with scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms, a few of which could be strong or severe. Highs should be in the upper 70s to low 80s. Some evening showers/storms are possible as a cool front comes through overnight, sending lows to the cooler upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: Medium

Friday is cooler, but the recent cool front may stall nearby to keep some clouds and even showers in play. Partly cloudy skies are favored as highs range from the upper 60s to low 70s. Friday night should be breezy and cooler with perhaps still some clouds around as lows drift into more seasonable low-t0-mid 50s. Confidence: Medium

The weekend features normal to cooler than normal temperatures, but a large dip in the jet stream overhead may continue to stir up clouds and even scattered showers at times, especially in the afternoon. Most of the time should be dry at least. Highs are expected to be in the upper 60s to low 70s on Saturday with mostly low-to-mid 70s on Sunday. Saturday night is looking partly cloudy and cool with lows in the upper 40s to mid-50s. Confidence: Medium
