Nvidia GeForce Now’s Free Tier Will Start Showing Ads Soon

A significant change will soon arrive in the free tier model of Nvidia GeForce Now, as the company plans to integrate ads for players while they wait to play.

Nvidia told The Verge only the free tier of GeForce Now will include ads. The video ads are shown while players are waiting in the queue to start their gaming session. According to Nvidia the ads will be “up to two minutes” long.

GeForce Now currently has three tiers: Free, Priority, and Ultimate. The free tier is a popular choice for some who use it as a trial mode to see what the service can offer without having to put a card on file.

The caveats, however, are you have a basic rig and a one-hour limit to play. Of course, if you just want to get a quick session in a game you already own in your library and you are away from your computer, the free tier might be all you need.

The announcement comes several months after Nvidia announced it was raising the prices for GeForce Now’s Priority and Ultimate tiers in Canada and Europe. However, U.S. players were not impacted by the price increases. Nvidia explained on a support page the reason for the price hike was to “account for increased operational costs.”

In our 2023 review of Nvidia GeForce Now, we said, “[g]ame streaming remains imperfect, but Nvidia’s service gives a glimpse of the future at a very reasonable price.”
