GREEN BAY – The Packers traded up for the first time in this draft on Saturday, climbing 15 spots in the fourth round to select Oregon safety Evan Williams at No. 111 overall.
Green Bay gave up the first of its three sixth-round picks, No. 190 overall, to the New York Jets, to move up from its original fourth-round spot at 126.
Williams (5-11, 200) was a second-team All-Pac-12 Conference pick last year, his only one at Oregon after four years at Fresno State. He started 13 games and led the Ducks with 82 tackles while ranking tied for second in the FBS among defensive backs with 4½ sacks.
During his time at Fresno State, Williams earned first-team All-Mountain West Conference honors in 2021 with a career-high 92 tackles and three interceptions in 13 starts. Then in 2022, he was second-team All-Mountain West in 10 starts, missing four games with a knee injury.
Overall in his college career, Williams started 45 games. At the scouting combine, he clocked a 4.60-second 40 with a 40 ½-inch vertical jump.
He’s the second safety the Packers have taken in this draft, joining Georgia’s Javon Bullard, a second-round choice.
