A Massachusetts teenager is dead after he was shot during a large house party in Northborough, according to authorities.Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said the 16-year-old victim was from Bellingham. He said the superintendent of Bellingham Public Schools has been notified that a teenager from that area was shot and killed.Bellingham Public Schools superintendent Peter Marano confirmed to NewsCenter 5 that the shooting victim is a Bellingham resident, but noted that the 16-year-old was not a student of the school district.”Our thoughts go out to the family of the victim of this senseless incident,” Marano wrote in an email to NewsCenter 5.Marano also wrote that the school district is aware that other young Bellingham residents were at the party when the shooting happened.”We have been in close contact with our partners at the Northborough Police Department and feel confident that this was an isolated incident of violence and there is no threat to anyone in Bellingham or to the schools,” Marano wrote. “Out of an abundance of caution there will be an increased police presence at High School in coming days. Additionally, the high school will have guidance staff available to speak with anyone effected by this tragic incident.”Authorities said that shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, a partygoer flagged down a police officer and told them someone had brandished a gun at 333 Howard St., the property where the party was happening.That Northborough police officer requested assistance from state police and from police departments in nearby communities.Early said that while officers were preparing to enter the property, which is approximately two acres, they heard multiple gunshots.At that point, police entered the property and the home, where Early said there were about 300 people in what he described as a “chaotic scene.”First responders from the Northborough Fire Department rendered medical aid to the 16-year-old shooting victim at the scene. A Northborough police officer and Massachusetts State Police trooper carried the teen to a waiting ambulance, according to Early. The district attorney said the victim was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he was pronounced dead.”Our thoughts go out to the victim and the victim’s family during this senseless act of violence. It’s especially difficult being Mother’s Day,” said Northborough police Chief Brian Griffin.Early said a 17-year-old was shot in the buttocks during the house party. That shooting victim was transported to Marlborough Hospital for treatment of his injuries and has since been released.The district attorney said two other people were treated at Marlborough Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Early also said several people who showed visible injuries were treated at the scene, but did not seek further medical care and declined to be taken to a hospital.Three adults were arrested on firearm-related charges in connection with the incident, Early said. Obviously, that was not the case.””Northborough police told them they did not want a party at this house, and I commend the Northborough police for what they’ve been doing with regards to this, trying to control the situation,” Early said. “I believe they were told that there would not be a party.”Howard Street residents told NewsCenter 5 reporter Ted Wayman that large parties at the 333 Howard St. property are common.”It usually begins around 12:30 a.m.,” one resident said.The Howard Street property where the large party happened is listed on vacation rental websites and described as a peaceful getaway cottage featuring seven bedrooms, a guest house, a pool and expansive yard space for entertaining.Griffin said the homeowner was on his property when the party was happening, but it remains unclear if the homeowner was the one who threw the party or if it was someone who rented the house for the night.The incident is being investigated by multiple Massachusetts State Police units and multiple local police departments. Anyone with information or video is asked by Griffin to call Northborough police at 508-393-1515.
