Teenager killed in Brookland Metro station Thursday afternoon


A teenager was shot and killed Thursday afternoon on a platform at the Brookland Metro station in Northeast D.C., according to two D.C. officials familiar with the incident.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known, but D.C. police spokesman Tom Lynch said several shots were fired.

D.C. police said on the social media platform X they were looking for a male with a black jacket, light blue jeans and square gray backpack. They published a picture of him on an escalator with a hood over his head and mask over his mouth.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m., soon after schools in the area let out for the day. Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said on X that trains were temporarily bypassing the station.
