Twitch to Ban Content That Focuses on ‘Intimate Body Parts’ for Too Long

No more butts or boobs? Live-streaming platform Twitch is preparing to ban content that focuses too long on “intimate body parts,” even when they are clothed.

“Starting on Friday March 29th, content that focuses on intimate body parts for a prolonged period of time will not be allowed,” the Amazon-owned site said in a tweet on Wednesday.  

Twitch has since updated its community guidelines to say that the clothed intimate body parts include “buttocks, groin, or breasts.” Twitch didn’t specify why it’s rolling out the ban. But users suspect the platform is trying to crack down on the antics of streamers including Morgpie, who’s known for pushing the boundaries of Twitch’s rules. Prior to the ban, she posted a live stream that green screened her videogame play on her butt.

On Wednesday, Magpie reacted to the upcoming change by streaming in a bikini and filming her exterior using a “butt cam.”

“Twitch, keep this legal,” she said during her stream. “This is what the internet was intended for.” 

For now, Twitch merely said the change is about ensuring the video platform remains a “welcoming place.”

“We want to make sure our rules work as intended and keep up with emerging behaviors,” the company said. “When needed, we make updates to our rules to capture those shifts in behavior, and so it’s clear to the community what is allowed.”

Twitch has taken a stricter stance on adult content of late. In December, the site revoked a policy change that permitted “artistic depictions” of nudity after users posted deepfake porn images. In January, Twitch then cracked down on streamers pretending to be nude on camera.
