D.C.-area forecast: Another damp and cool Saturday, then some improvement on Sunday

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

3/10: Another cool Saturday with rain and drizzle. Been there, done that.

  • Today: Areas of rain through midday, then lighter showers/drizzle. Highs: Near 60 to mid-60s.
  • Tonight: Spotty shower, drizzle, patchy fog. Lows: Mid-50s to around 60.
  • Tomorrow: A few a.m. showers possible. Highs: Near 70 to mid-70s.

If it’s Saturday, it must be a cool and rainy day. The steadier rain looks to be limited to the morning to early afternoon, but lighter showers or drizzle probably will persist thereafter. Tomorrow shows promise for some improvement, with brighter skies and warmer temperatures by afternoon. The early part of the new workweek will bring increasing sunshine and a significant warming trend.

Today (Saturday): It’s a wet one with areas of steady rain during the morning hours. We should transition to scattered lighter showers during the afternoon, although a light mist or drizzle is likely to be a constant. Temperatures struggle, with highs near 60 to the mid-60s. Rain totals could range anywhere from about a quarter to a half inch, with the highest totals likely to be west and southwest of D.C. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: Just a spotty light shower or sprinkle this evening and overnight, though patchy fog and drizzle might keep things damp. Lows range from the mid-50s to around 60. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): We’re poised to at least partially buck the weekend trend of mostly cool and showery. There’s even a chance the day is dry, although some morning showers could remain, especially to the south. Skies should brighten by afternoon, helping boost temperatures into a near 70 to mid-70s zone. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy conditions last through the night. Lows mainly dip to a range from the mid-50s to around 60. Confidence: Medium-High

Monday could have some lingering morning clouds. But overall the day should feature increasing sunshine. Highs in the mid- to upper 70s seem a good bet from here. Confidence: Medium-High

Tuesday keeps the warming trend going. With plenty of sunshine, we should get to near 80 to the low 80s for highs. Confidence: Medium
